07 Nov 1957, Moscow, USSR — Communist Show Starts with Cannon Boom. Moscow, U.S.S.R.: View of Moscow’s Red Square showing cannons that were part of the big show put on by the men in the Kremlin to mark the 40th anniversary of the Communist seizure of power. Nearly every communist leader in the world was on hand to see the parade which began with the booming of 40 cannons. Then came an awesome display of rockets ranging in size from slim, two-stage missiles to 70-foot long, cigar-shaped flying behemoths which were hauled on huge caterpillar transports. — Image by © Bettmann/CORBIS
